Terms of Service
Last updated: June 10, 2026
Welcome to Banyan ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using banyancouncil.com (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. What Banyan Is — and Isn't
Banyan assembles a small council of historical thinkers whose lived experience may speak to what you are carrying. Responses are AI-generated interpretations inspired by these figures and the traditions associated with them. They are not the actual words of any real person, living or deceased, and they are not professional advice.
Banyan is not a substitute for medical, psychological, legal, financial, or spiritual counsel. If you are in crisis or need urgent help, please contact a qualified professional or local emergency services.
2. Accounts
You may need an account to use certain features. You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account and for keeping your credentials secure. You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use Banyan.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service to harm yourself or others.
- Submit unlawful, abusive, or infringing content.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload the Service.
- Misrepresent AI output as the genuine words of any real individual.
4. Your Content
You retain ownership of questions, notes, and other content you submit. You grant us a limited license to process, store, and display that content as needed to operate the Service. We may use aggregated and de-identified data to improve Banyan.
5. Intellectual Property
The Banyan name, design, portraits, and curated content are owned by us or our licensors. Quoted passages from third-party texts remain the property of their respective authors and rights holders and are used in good faith for educational and contemplative purposes.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, accurate, or error-free.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the Service.
8. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
