Banyan ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: name, email, and authentication details when you sign in (including through Google).
- Your questions and Your Portrait: the prompts you submit, any personal context you add to Your Portrait, and the responses generated.
- Usage data: pages visited, performance metrics, and basic device information, used to keep the Service reliable.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide and personalize the Service.
- To generate responses from the council based on your question and context.
- To improve performance, debug errors, and prevent abuse.
- To communicate important changes about the Service.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use the content of your private Portrait for advertising.
3. Third-Party Processors
We rely on trusted providers to run Banyan. These include cloud hosting and database services, authentication providers, and AI model providers used to generate council responses. Your question text is sent to these AI providers solely to produce a response and is handled under their respective privacy commitments.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and remember preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account and content for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account or request deletion of specific content by emailing us. Some data may persist in backups for a limited period before being purged.
6. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. Email us to exercise these rights.
7. Children
Banyan is not directed to children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.
9. International Transfers
Banyan may be operated from, and your information processed in, countries other than your own. By using the Service you consent to those transfers.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you of material changes.
