Susan Forward

American clinical therapist and bestselling author, born 1938. She built her career around adult survivors of toxic family systems — the children of emotionally abusive, controlling, alcoholic, or narcissistic parents who arrive in midlife wondering why nothing in their life works and who they would have been without the original wound. Her landmark book, *Toxic Parents* (1989), was one of the first popular works to give people permission to name parental harm clearly — not as ungratefulness, not as exaggeration, but as accurate description of damage done by adults who should have known better.
